praying handsThe Rock Rapids World Day of Prayer worship service will be held Friday, March 1st at the First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids. The service will start at 1:30 and the speaker will be Shari Kastein, Director of the Family Crisis Centers in Sioux Center. The offering for the service will go towards supporting this emergency shelter for Lyon County residents.

Bethel Reformed Church Mission Soup and Pie Supper

Wed. Feb 27th , 5:00 to 7:00

Soups are chili, broccoli-cheese and chicken–rice

Bread, buttered with cheese, crackers and chocolate or white milk, coffee and water.

Various pies and desserts will be served as well

Free will donation will go towards various mission opportunities.

Snow date will be Wednesday, March 6th 2013.

The church is located in rural Little Rock – 8 miles north of George.

The Valentine’s Day Rose

Roses are red, violets are blue, Valentine’s Day is coming to bring flowers to you….ok, so maybe poetry isn’t my kind of thing and maybe I should probably rethink this dive into creative word play; but it’s February and that means Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. As such, I would say if you can write poetry you have a leg up on those of us who can’t. However, for folks who find it more difficult, here is a way to say just as much without saying anything at all, the rose.

The rose is estimated to be almost 35 million years old based on fossil evidence and has been cultivated for at least 5,000 years. Today rose cultivation continues with the wholesales value of domestically produced cut roses being close to $17 million dollars in 2010. Read The Full Story…

Rock Rapids, Iowa — Mid-Sioux Opportunity has undergone scheduling changes due to a loss of funding. The Rock Rapids office at 302 S Lincoln has reduced the days it is staffed. Beginning on September 1, 2012, the office will be staffed only on Wednesdays, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. On Wednesdays, Meghan and Carmen will be in the office to help you. If you need assistance on another day, you can call the Sioux Center office at (712) 722-3611.

Applications for heating assistance will be taken by appointment only.

The food bank has moved to ATLAS of Lyon County.
