GLR Mock Accident_resizedGeorge, Iowa — It’s prom season in northwest Iowa and summer is coming up. So officials in George wanted to drive home the point that distracted driving kills.

A mock accident was set up on Thursday morning (April 20th) in front of the George-Little Rock High School. But High School Principal Kevin Range says they didn’t tell the students it wasn’t a real accident right away.

He tells us the scenario they came up with is that a student had been texting while driving and the vehicle got t-boned right in front of the school, and someone “died” in the accident. He says hearts were racing as sirens blared approaching the scene.

Range reminds people that distracted driving is an issue not only for students but for all drivers.

Participating entities besides George-Little Rock Schools included the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, the George Emergency Medical Service (GEMS), the Little Rock Ambulance Service, the George Fire Department, and the Iowa State Patrol.
