Editor’s note: The Community Foundation of Lyon County is the foundation that used to distribute money that came from the state’s casinos before Lyon County had a casino. Money from the Grand Falls Casino now gets funneled through a different foundation, the Lyon County Riverboat Foundation. The Community Foundation of Lyon County still exists, but now only receives charitable donations, and no gambling money to be used to fund eligible projects.

Sioux City, Iowa — The Community Foundation of Lyon County (CFLC), an affiliate of the Siouxland Community Foundation, is accepting grant applications from 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and units of local government. Grant criteria and the online application can be found at www.siouxlandcommunityfoundation.org/affiliates/. The deadline for submitting an online application is March 15.

“The Community Foundation of Lyon County will begin awarding grants every two years, and has increased the maximum amount to be requested” stated Shayne Mayer, CFLC Advisory Board Chair, “Our hope is that the impact of these grants will be felt throughout Lyon County. We are excited about our new grant process and encourage Lyon County nonprofits to apply.”

The CFLC will award grants in the following areas:
• Arts & Culture
• Civic
• Education
• Environment
• Health
• Human Services

The CFLC Advisory Board is aware that service clubs and organizations have an important role in Lyon County. Even though the Foundation can not make grants directly to service clubs or other non-501(c)(3) organizations, those organizations are encouraged to collaborate with a qualified nonprofit agency on projects or seek a fiscal sponsor.

The CFLC is governed by a local nine-member advisory board composed of representatives from communities in Lyon County. Technical assistance and staff support is provided by the Siouxland Community Foundation which currently works with eleven affiliate Foundations.

Questions about the grant program or online application process may be directed to Rebecca Krohn, Executive Director, Siouxland Community Foundation at (712) 293-3303.
