Fatal AccidentWorthington, MN — A six-year-old boy from Spirit Lake has died and four others were injured as the result of an accident on Saturday (2/2) near Worthington.

The Minnesota State Patrol reports that about 6:40 PM, 30-year-old James Fisher of Luverne was westbound on I-90, west of Worthington in a 1998 Ford.  Forty-four-year-old Kevin Bakker of Spirit Lake was eastbound on 90 in a 2012 Nissan.

Fisher lost control and his vehicle went through the median into the eastbound lanes and was struck broadside by Bakker’s vehicle.

A passenger in the Bakker vehicle, 6-year-old Jonah Holmes was airlifted to Sanford Sioux Falls, but died as a result of his injuries.

Kevin Bakker, and two other passengers in his car, 27-year-old Michelle Holmes and one-year-old Fisher Bakker were transported to Sanford Worthington by Sanford Worthington Ambulance. At last report, both Kevin Bakker and Michelle Holmes were listed in critical condition.

James Fisher was transported to Sanford Worthington by Sanford Worthington Ambulance. He was treated and released.

Both vehicles were totaled.

The Worthington and Rushmore fire departments, Sanford Worthington Ambulance, and Adrian Ambulance assisted the Minnesota State Patrol.
